Many ECET students go for a minor in another subject. This can be especially attractive for students who transfer with all their liberal studies credits already and have space in their schedules. Here are some common options for folks:
• The new Robotics and Automation Engineering Certificate is technically not a Minor because it only requires 12 credit hours. Many ECET students will schedule to take a couple of these courses as Technical electives in their ECET program, requiring only 2 additional courses to earn Currently you can only begin this program in Fall semester since that’s when the first course RAW 301 is offered and the prereq structure makes it require at least 3 semesters to complete (Start in Fall, then Spring, then the following Fall).
• The Computer Science Minor is very popular. It requires 17 Credit hours. CS 150 (4hrs), then CS 151 (4 hrs), Then CS 253 (3 hrs). The remaining 6 hours (2 classes) must be CS courses above number 250 (except CS 353), OR Math 144 Intro to Numerical Analysis. I recommend MATH144 as it covers some Calculus I and II concepts, a bit of differential equations, and error analysis.
• The Math minor requires the least number of additional courses since ECET students already take Calculus I (4 hrs) and Calculus II(4 hours). The remaining requirements are 9 hours (3 additional math classes) numbered 250 or higher (excluding MATH 301, MATH 311, and MATH 321).
• The Business Administration Minor requires 6 additional courses.
