I have been a drummer\/percussionist for over thirty years, progressing from elementary school orchestra to high school symphonic and marching band to several touring metal and rock bands.<\/p>\n<p>My lifelong passion for music, combined with a curiosity about other cultures, led me to cultural anthropology and ethnomusicology. After completing my bachelor\u2019s degree at\u00a0<a title=\"wcu anthropology\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wcu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Western Carolina University<\/a>\u00a0in 2006, I entered the graduate program at USC, earning a master\u2019s degree in cultural anthropology in 2008.
