Jonathan Wade is the Senior Educational Technologist at Western Carolina University and serves as a support for the learning management system. His academic studies were in the humanities and have always included a connection to humans and their use of technology. His master’s work at Vanderbilt University focused upon technology, sustainable development, and environmental ethics. He received his PhD from the University of Texas at Dallas in the humanities with emphases in literature, aesthetic studies, and the philosophy of science and technology.
Jonathan served as a faculty member at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama and Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas before joining the UNC system as a member of the faculty, a department chair, and a program director at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching. Since 2008, one of his primary areas of focus for K12 professional development has been exploring the best, most engaging, most innovative, and most effective uses of educational technology. In 2018-19, Jonathan served as the acting director for the Coulter Faculty Commons. In 2021, his position was moved to the Educational Technology Team in Academic Engagement and IT Governance.
Being a part of the WCU Division of Technology gives Jonathan the opportunity to serve his adopted home of Western North Carolina by aiding the faculty and staff in accomplishing their mission to serve their students by creating learning experiences that help them become better citizens and life-long learners.
