Fall 2009"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\"><strong><em>Baroque Ornamentation<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong><em>MUS 480\/MUS 580<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong><em>Dr. Mary Kay Bauer<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong><em>Room 462 Coulter<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong><em><a href=\"mailto:mkbauer@email.wcu.edu\">mkbauer@email.wcu.edu<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong><em>828-227-3275 (office)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong><em>828-231-0004 (cell)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Course Objective<\/span>:\u00a0\u00a0After taking Baroque Ornamentation students will:<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0\u00a0Have a detailed background of the historical and sociological facts of the 17<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0in music.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0\u00a0Have knowledge of the major treatise on ornamentation from that period.<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0\u00a0Have knowledge of what ornaments are prevalent for the voice and how to use them.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0\u00a0Have several performance experiences using this knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Literature Requirements<\/span>:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>All students will sing\/perform a simple song in either English or Italian (to be assigned).<\/p>\n<p>Undergraduate students will sing two other songs in any language.\u00a0\u00a0Efforts should be taken to include recitative whenever possible.<\/p>\n<p>Graduate students will sing 4 songs in any language.\u00a0\u00a0Graduate students are required to include a lengthy recitative with this literature.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Written Requirements<\/span>:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>All students will submit a written document which describes the method by which their ornaments were chosen.\u00a0\u00a0This is a short document submitted per selection performed.\u00a0\u00a0These short papers are due within a reasonable length of time from the assignment of this literature.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the above, graduate students will submit a research paper on a topic of their choice.\u00a0\u00a0This paper should be no less than 10 pages in length and include citations and bibliography in MLA style.\u00a0\u00a0This paper should be submitted according to the following time table:<\/p>\n<p>October 6\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0submit\u00a0a proposal (1 side of paper)\u00a0\u00a0N.B.\u00a0\u00a0We do not have class that day.\u00a0\u00a0But the proposal should be submitted anyway.<\/p>\n<p>November 17\u00a0\u00a0&#8211;
