{"id":37,"date":"2012-05-21T09:55:22","date_gmt":"2012-05-21T13:55:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/faculty.wcu.edu\/mkbauer\/?page_id=37"},"modified":"2016-05-14T17:21:08","modified_gmt":"2016-05-14T21:21:08","slug":"what-voice-number-to-take-when","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/faculty.wcu.edu\/mkbauer\/faculty-name\/curriculum-vita\/what-voice-number-to-take-when\/","title":{"rendered":"What Voice Number to Take When?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>General Information about voice lessons:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0All students who study voice must register for voice lessons.<\/li>\n<li>Voice lessons are given by voice faculty under the numbers listed below.<\/li>\n<li>These numbers are repeated twice in each level \u2013 typically fall and spring.<\/li>\n<li>No private voice lessons are given without an audition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>What Number to Take When:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>MUS 105:\u00a0 Preparatory Lessons &#8211; taken for the first semester of study. \u00a0MUS 105 is assigned based upon an entering audition which shows much potential, but is not up to entering freshman singing level. \u00a0The jury at the end of this semester is a barrier exam for continuation into the music major as a voice principal. \u00a0MUS 105 may not be repeated.<\/li>\n<li>MUS 106:\u00a0 BFA Music Theatre Majors \u2013 taken for the entire first year of study<\/li>\n<li>MUS 106: \u00a0Music Minors &#8211; taken for the entire first year of study.<\/li>\n<li>MUS 107:\u00a0 Voice majors (BA, BMED, BM performance) \u2013 taken for the entire first year of voice study<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>MUS 206: BFA Music Theatre Majors \u2013 taken for the entire second year of study<\/li>\n<li>MUS 206: \u00a0Music Minors &#8211; taken for the entire second year of study. \u00a0After MUS 206 for the 2nd time, the music minor voice requirement is completed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>MUS 207: Voice majors (BA, BMED, BM performance) \u2013 taken for the entire second year of voice study. \u00a0At the conclusion of the second semester of MUS 207, the student must perform a Sophomore Exam. This is generally performed in a regular voice jury. \u00a0This is the barrier exam for continuation to junior level voice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>MUS 306: BFA Music Theatre Majors \u2013 taken for the entire third year of study<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>MUS 307: Voice majors (BMED, BM performance) \u2013 taken for the entire third year of voice study<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>MUS 406: BFA Music Theatre Majors \u2013 taken for the entire fourth year of study<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>MUS 407: Voice majors (BM performance) \u2013 taken for the entire fourth year of voice study.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(BMED students take MUS 407 for one semester only in the fourth year.\u00a0 The second semester is student teaching.)<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Refer to the link \u201cvoice requirement matrix\u201d for a semester by semester breakdown of requirements within each level.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>N.B. \u00a0School of Music Policies:<\/h4>\n<p>1. \u00a0A passing grade in MUS108 Aural Skills I AND MUS 118 Music Theory I is required for enrollment in MUS 206 or 207 (Sophomore level voice).<\/p>\n<p>2. \u00a0A passing grade in MUS 208 Aural Skills II AND MUS 218 Music Theory II is required prior to performing the Sophomore Exam (Junior Qualifying).<\/p>\n<h4>N.B. Voice Division Policy:<\/h4>\n<p>1. \u00a0To help ensure your success in our curriculum, your Music Theory and Aural Skills grades will be carefully monitored. \u00a0Should your 5th week grade report indicate a low score, you will be required to tutor in Theory and\/or Aural Skills. \u00a0Tutoring is available readily and is free of charge.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>General Information about voice lessons: \u00a0All students who study voice must register for voice lessons.
