Please appreciate that this is work above and beyond already full teaching and administrative responsibilities.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To help us accommodate your needs into our busy schedules, accompanying requests MUST be made\u00a0<em>at least<\/em>\u00a0one month in advance for full recitals and\u00a0JQs\u00a0and two weeks for studio recitals or single pieces for the Student Recital Hour.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If your pianist does not have<em>\u00a0all<\/em>\u00a0of your music\u00a0<em>at least two full weeks in advance<\/em>, he or she may choose either not to play that individual piece or not to play for the entire performance.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Faculty members\u2019 classroom teaching commitments will not be rescheduled to accommodate accompanying needs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Always consult a pianist\u00a0<em>before<\/em>\u00a0scheduling a recital, performance, or other date.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">If you choose a date without\u00a0<em>first\u00a0<\/em>consulting a pianist, one may not be available to play for you.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Accompanying Fees:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The fees listed below are\u00a0<em>only<\/em>\u00a0guidelines: On and off-campus accompanists may raise or lower fees at their own discretion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Basic Fee:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>$40.00 per hour ($20.00 per half hour) for rehearsals and\/or lessons.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This fee includes compensation for the preparation of accompaniments outside of the rehearsal time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Additional Fees:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>$10.00 to $20.00 for accompanying on the Student Recital Hour.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>$15.00 for juries.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>$30.00 to $60.00 junior qualifying recital (depending on the difficulty of the music).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>$40.00 to $75.00 junior, senior, or graduate recital (depending on the difficulty of the music).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>$40.00 per hour for recording (<em>any<\/em>\u00a0division of an hour or additional hours require further $40.00 payment).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Instrumental Studio Recitals:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>$20.00 basic fee per student includes the group studio rehearsal\u00a0<em>and\u00a0<\/em>the recital itself.<\/p>\n<p>Additional rehearsals beyond these two times are subject to the rehearsal fees listed above.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Voice Studio Recitals and Diction Class Recitals:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>$10\u00a0<em>per singer<\/em>\u00a0for voice studio recitals that\u00a0<em>do not<\/em>\u00a0require extra rehearsal.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>$15.00\u00a0<em>per singer<\/em>\u00a0for diction class recitals: includes one in-class rehearsal\u00a0<em>and<\/em>\u00a0the recital.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Off-campus Events:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Fees for off-campus events such as concerts or competitions will be charged at the discretion of the accompanist for time, travel, etc.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If the event requires overnight stay(s), a private hotel room for the accompanist should be provided.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Payment:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Payment is due at the time of the service or on the day of the final performance.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If the payment is more than one week late, a $10\u00a0<em>per week<\/em>\u00a0late fee will be charged until payment is made in full.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Returned Checks:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If your check for accompanying fees is returned by the bank, you will owe the original amount of the check\u00a0<em>plus all bank fees<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>If full reimbursement is not made within one month of the incident, you will be required to find an off-campus accompanist for any future performances at WCU.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nonpayment:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Accompanists may choose not to play for an event (such as a jury or recital) or not to play for the individual student in the future if full payment is not made.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lateness and Cancellations of Rehearsals and\/or Lessons:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If\u00a0<em>you<\/em>\u00a0are late for a rehearsal or lesson, your accompanist is\u00a0<em>not<\/em>\u00a0responsible for making up the time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If your\u00a0<em>accompanist<\/em>\u00a0is late for a rehearsal or lesson, the time will be made up as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Should you need to cancel a rehearsal or lesson, do so with 24-hour notice when possible.\u00a0<em>You will be charged the full amount for the time if you do not give your accompanist prior notification.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>Working with an Accompanist<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Before You Contact an Accompanist<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Know the exact date, time, and location of your event. Remember: You must contact the accompanist at least\u00a0<em>one month<\/em>\u00a0in advance for full recitals and\u00a0JQs\u00a0and\u00a0<em>two weeks<\/em>\u00a0in advance for studio recitals or single pieces for the Student\u00a0\u00a0Recital Hour.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Know exactly what repertoire you need to be accompanied. For example, if it\u2019s only the second movement of a sonata, make that fact clear to the pianist.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Discuss the accompanist\u2019s fees\u00a0<em>in advance<\/em>\u00a0and make certain that you are prepared and able to pay. Failing to pay your accompanist is unprofessional and reflects badly on you and the WCU School of Music.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0For off-campus accompanists, arrange rehearsal space in advance. You may want to schedule a classroom or the recital hall. Don\u2019t waste time searching the building for a room just before a rehearsal.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Stay in contact by phone or e-mail and always return calls or e-mails promptly. If rehearsal or lesson time changes, contact your accompanist; and if your literature\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0or performance date change, contact your accompanist<em>immediately<\/em>!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rehearsing with Your Accompanist:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Be on time; if you are late do not expect an accompanist to go overtime for you.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<em>Be prepared to rehearse<\/em>. Don\u2019t take time practicing your part in front of your accompanist.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Know what you want to rehearse. Don\u2019t waste rehearsal time searching through your music for something to rehearse. Also, manage your time well. If you have an hour to rehearse six pieces, know what pieces or sections will take the most time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Study the piano part in advance for musical cues; asking questions about the piano part in the rehearsal wastes time. Write in cues and other features of the accompaniment that will help you.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Specific metronome markings are helpful. No accompanist will expect you to play like the metronome, but markings that guide the pianist toward your tempo are always appreciated.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Be polite: \u201cplease\u201d and \u201cthank you\u201d are always welcome. A pianist is a human being, not a\u00a0SmartMusicmachine. Remember, you are collaborating with your accompanist; build a musical partnership\u00a0<em>with<\/em>\u00a0him or her.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0If you provide photocopied music, make sure that you have not cut off any of the piano part, especially at the bottom of the page.
