SENIOR EXAMINATION

SENIOR EXAMINATION

Each student majoring in music education must prepare a senior recital.  This recital is evaluated (pass/fail) in a public performance by the appropriate faculty committee. The student’s studio teacher will recommend that all or part of the program be presented.  The student is responsible for all advertising, program information and program notes for this recital.  Scheduling of the recital hall must be done with ample lead time.  Work with your studio teacher for help with scheduling and program notes, etc.

1.  The performance must include representative works from the following five categories:

a) 17th or 18th-century Italian or English

b) 19th-century German

c) 19th or 20th-century French

d) 20th-century American or British

Students may include an aria from an opera or oratorio or a musical theatre selection at the discretion of their teacher.

2. The student must perform in French, German, Italian, and English.

3. The length of this program must total no less than 25 minutes of memorized music.

4.  Brief program notes must be provided for the audience.  These program notes must include brief explanatory notes about the specific piece/poet/composer or other points of interest AND if appropriate, a translation.
